Site details


Site description: An extensive mountainous area situated in the eastern Taurus range. The western part of the IBA is barren and rocky; the eastern part is covered with forests comprising Pinus, Abies, Cedrus and Juniperus. Alpine pasture and exposed stony fell occurs at higher altitudes.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard. KBA identified in the CEPF Ecosystem Profile of the Mediterranean Hotspot (2017). Taxonomy, nomenclature and global threat category follow the 2016 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for breeding raptors and other upland species.
Delineation rationale: Area changed from 54514ha to 215400ha (Kiliç & Eken, 2004). 2010-09-01: area updated from 215,400 ha to 242,097 ha [poor] (derived from 2010 GIS polygon).
