Site details
Site description: A small reservoir situated north-west of Amasya, fed by the Tersakan stream and used to irrigate 7,966 ha in the adjacent Suluova plain. There is virtually no shoreline vegetation. DSÝ operates a small fish-farm next to the dam and releases fish into the lake.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for wintering and passage waterbirds.
