Site details

Site description: The site comprises the stretch of the lower Noteæ river valley between the Gwda inflow and Wieleñ town. Along the river there are flood-plain terraces and oxbow lakes, with extensive riverine forests, large reedbeds, fens and flooded meadows, and peat workings covered by water-fringe vegetation and scattered trees. Soils range from permanently wet to highly drained, and in some places have been converted to arable land.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (one pair feeds in the area, nesting nearby). Other notable breeding species include Limosa limosa (70 pairs) and Chlidonias niger (52 pairs).
