Site description: The KBA Jaén covers an area of 294.86 sq km and it's located in Perú, in the Department of Cajamarca, in the provinces of Cutervo and Jaén. The main climate types in this KBA are: (1) semi-dry with abundant moisture all stations of the year, (2) temperate and rainy with abundant moisture all the stations of the year, (3) temperate and semi-dry with abundant moisture all stations of the year. In the former, the maximum temperature ranges between 29°C and 33°C; the minimum temperature, between 19°C and 23°C; and the annual precipitation, between 900 mm and 1200 mm. In the second, the maximum temperature ranges between 25°C and 29°C; the minimum temperature, between 11°C and 17°C; and the annual precipitation, between 1200 mm and 3000 mm. In the third, the maximum temperature ranges between 21°C and 25°C; the minimum temperature, between 7°C and 11°C; and the annual precipitation, between 700 mm and 2000 mm. It includes the following ecosystems: "Bosque estacionalmente seco interandino (Seasonally dry inter-Andean forest)" and "Matorral andino (Andean scrub)". This KBA was previously named KBA Jaen-Bellavista. The site area is mantained.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The KBA Jaén qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for A1 and B2 criteria described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. The KBA Jaén harbors three range restricted lizards, one range restricted plant and eight range restricted bird species.
Additional biodiversity: Plants: Espostoa lanata, Matucana pujupatii, Melocactus bellavistensis, Opuntia macbridei, Pereskia horrida, Browningia chlorocarpa, Rauhocereus riosaniensis. Birds: Lathroticcus griseipectus, Thamnophilus tenuepunctatus, Picumnus sclateri, Turdus maranonicus, Arremon abeillei, Butorides striata, Cantorchilus superciliaris, Charadrius collaris, Columbina buckleyi, Forpus coelestis, Icterus graceannae, Myiarchus phaeocephalus, Nyctidromus anthonyi, Pardirallus sanguinolentus, Pseudelaenia leucospodia, Sarkidiornis sylvicola, Sporophila simplex, Thamnophilus bernardi, Tigrisoma fasciatum. Lizards: Gonatodes atricucullaris
Manageability of the site: The KBA Jaén could be managed by the Regional Government of Cajamarca (https://www.gob.pe/regioncajamarca) because it has the capacity to establish Regional Conservation Areas.

Delineation rationale: The KBA Jaén was delineated by taking into account the political limits of Cajamarca and Amazonas departments which are separated by the Marañon river on the east and by the river Chamaya on the west. The northern and southern parts of this KBA was delineated by taking into account posible suitable habitats for the species present here such as the lizards Stenocercus huancabambae and Ameiva nodam.
