Site description: The KBA Aymara Lupaca covers an area of 2584.009 sq km and it's located within the provinces of Chucuito and El Collao, department of Puno. This KBA was delimited based on the limits of the Ex Aymara Lupaca Rserved Zone but limited to the north by the Nationally Prioritized Zone 'Huacullani-Ingenio' and to the south by the Regionally Prioritized Zone 'Lagunas Altoandinas' and the KBA Covire. The altitude range of the KBA Aymara Lupaca is 3825-5200 masl. Following the National Map of Ecoregions of MINAM (2018), the KBA Aymara Lupaca presents ca. 78% of Pajonal de puna seca, ca. 12% of Zona agrícola, ca. 5% of Periglaciar, ca. 3% of Bofedal and ca. 1% of Lago y laguna.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The KBA Aymara Lupaca qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for A1 criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBA. The KBA Aymara Lupaca is home to the Endangered frog Telmatobius marmoratus .
Additional biodiversity: Hippocamelus antisensis, Galenomys garleppi, Auliscomys sublimis, Akodon albiventer, Calomys lepidus, Eligmodontia hirtipes, Abrothrix andinus, Ctenomys opimus.
Manageability of the site: Since the KBA Aymara Lupaca was previously recognized as a Reserved Zone and currently overlaps with the Nationally Prioritized Zone 'Huacullani-Ingenio' to the North, the Regional Priority Zone 'Lagunas Altoandinas' and the KBA Covire to the extreme South, this KBA can be potentially managed by the National Service of Protected Natural Areas - SERNANP. Also, this KBA includes the Taypipiña Private Conservation Area.

Delineation rationale: The Aymara Lupaca KBA follow the limit of the Ex Aymara Lupaca Reserved Zone and this was modified in the following way: To the west it follows the Desaguadero-Moquegua highway, to the north it borders the Ccallaccame River , to the east it follows the border between Peru and Bolivia, to the South it follows the limit of the Ex Reserved Zone and on the other hand the limit of the KBA Covire.
