Site details
Site description: An area of woodland and heathland, located south of the city of Bergen op Zoom. The site is adjacent to the Belgian IBA of Kalmhoutsche Heide. Forest stands consist of deciduous/mixed woodlands and conifer plantations of various ages and under varying management regimes.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: This site is important at the EU level for Caprimulgus europaeus, Dryocopus martius and Lullula arborea.
Delineation rationale: 9 March 2017: area edited. Now equal to the designated Special Protection Area (Birds Directive).
