Site details
Site description: Located in north-western Tibet, south-western Qinghai and south-eastern Xinjiang. The climate in the IBA is cold and dry, with strong radiation. The main vegetation type is high-altitude grassland. There are extensive inland river systems within the IBA, including the source of Yangtze River.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals including Ursus arctos, Panthra uncia, Bos mutus, Equus kiang and Pantholops hodgsoni.
