Site details
Site description: Shaobo Hu is located 15 km north of Yangzhou City. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal lies to the east of the lake. The western shore of the lake has been straightened by reclamation. Shaobo Hu receives water from channels and then flows into the Yangtze River. The shallow area of the lake is dominated by reeds, and there are extensive agricultural lands in the adjacent areas.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
