Site details


Site description: Coastal area is used for agriculture, inland area is alocated for medicinal plant collection and wild boar and deer huntimg. Most of the people work as dry land farmer. Main comodities are coconut, cashew, coffee, cacao, clove and nutmeg.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Pulau Kobroor is an interesting area because of its avifauna is a mixed between Moluccas and Papua. Palm Cockatoo Probosciger atterimus and King Bird-of-paradise Cicinurus regius live in this area. Non-bird biodiversity: Thylogale brunii, Spilocucuc maculatus chrysorrhous, Cervus timorensis moluccensis (Hitipeuw & Tuhumury 1999 obs.pri.).

Habitats


Summary of habitats in KBA: Evergreen rainforest and semi-evergreen rainforest (Monk et.al.1997). The wetland habitats in this area are offshore islands, tidal mudflat, mangrove forest, laguna, beach swamp/salty swamp and freshwater swamp. Around 2-3 km from the beach there is a primary forest (Silvius et.al.1986).
