Site details


Site description: Site located in the left margin of final branch of the River Quarteira. It is integrated in undertaking of Vilamoura and essencially composed of agriculture-land, cultivations and wetland.In the south and west, the area is limited for agriculture-land and pine-forest; in the north is limited for golf course and in the east for urbanizations.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Important site for Porphyrio porphyrio, there are 20 birds during reproductive season and about 7/12 breeding pairs.High number of herons, a dormitory of------------------- and the habitual breeding Ardea purpurea and Ixobrychus minutus.During the migration are-----------, Falco peregrinum and important number of transaharian passerines.

Threats


Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: There is an enviromental Park that causes reduction of the disturbances like illegal hunting, deposition of waste material and non-regulated acess.But there are some disturbances in the surrounding area.A center for study to nature and two lagoons were maked in the management of the park.
