Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: IBA-boundaries are drawn in Google Earth and covers the sea area between Varangerbotn and Blodskytodden. The outer border extends 2-3 km from the coastline, and some of the most important coastal (terrestrial) areas are also covered by the IBA (Svartnes, Skallelv and Komagvær).
