Site details


Site description: A sea cliff in the extreme north-west of mainland Iceland. Recreation is the main land-use. There is no permanent settlement in the neighborhood. Eggs are collected traditionally from the auks at certain places on the cliff (`Other' land-use).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Important for its large numbers of breeding seabirds; other abundant species are Fulmarus glacialis, Fratercula arctica and Uria lomvia (12,000 pairs).
