Site details
Site description: The KBA Carpish covers an area of 2465.583 sq km and it's located within the provinces of Huánuco, Pachitea and Leoncio Prado, department of Huánuco. In general, the KBA Carpish follows the limits of the original KBA Carpish, especially at the North, West and South boundaries. In order to include fish and amphibian species, an area was increased to the East and Southeast following the limit of the terrain relief. The altitude range of the KBA Carpish is 750-4400 masl. The KBA Carpish has these different type of weather: (1) temperate, very rainy with abundant humidity all seasons; (2) cold, rainy with dry autumn and winter; (3) temperate, rainy with abundant humidity all seasons; and (4) temperate, semi-dry with abundant humidity all seasons. The KBA Carpish presents the following Ecosystems: "Bosque montano de Yunga", "Pajonal de puna húmeda", "Bosque altimontano (Pluvial) de Yunga", "Bosque basimontano de Yunga", "Matorral andino", Secondary vegetation and Agricultural Zones.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The KBA Carpish qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for A1a, A1b, A1e, B1 and B2 criteria described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. The KBA Carpish harbors three threatened plants, the moth Ctenucha projecta, the opilion Tschaidicancha weyrauchi, the endemic armadillo Dasypus pilosus, nine trigger frogs, five trigger fishes and 17 range restricted bird species

Manageability of the site: Since approximately one third of the KBA Carpish is protected by the Regional Conservation Area ''Bosque Montano de Carpish'' and also almost all of the KBA is covered by two Nationally Prioritized Zones ''Carpish'' and ''Cabeceras Del Pozuzo-Quebrada Azogue-Río Caracol'', the KBA Carpish can be managed by the National Service of Protected Natural Areas - SERNANP jointly with Huanuco Regional Government (https://www.regionhuanuco.gob.pe/).
