Ensuring accuracy
The identification and delineation of KBAs listed in the World Database of Key Biodiversity Areas are open to challenge through a formal appeals process. Anyone who believes that a site does not, or no longer, meets the KBA criteria can submit an appeal.
* This does not include KBAs identified based on previous criteria, that have not been re-assessed under the Global KBA Standard or KBAs identified based on sub-global criteria.
Grounds for appeal
Appeals may be made if the KBA criteria, as defined in the KBA Global Standard and applied according to the KBA Guidelines for using the Global Standard, have not been correctly used in identifying or delineating a site. Appeals based on subjective, political, or economic reasons are not considered.
For detailed information about the appeal process, check the official Procedure for Handling of Appeals.
